In 1990, Carlos Perez conceived the idea of creating another ecotourism project, but this time in the opposite end of the country: in the Amazon region. His interest was to build a sustainable tourism project with an Amazonian community; with the intention of giving them development opportunities without putting their culture or territory at risk. After several meetings an agreement with the Achuar community was reached, and it is now recognized as the Achuar Nationality of Ecuador (NAE).
With the signing of the lease agreement, approval for the construction of Kapawi Ecolodge & Reserve came in 1993. The lodge started its operations in April 1996.
Canodros S.A’s goal was accomplished in accordance to what was established, and after eleven years of operation, Kapawi, one of the most important tourism projects in Ecuador, was handed over to the NAE. This project will serve as a means of development for this Amazon community.
After 25 years of operation, we can reaffirm our mission:
Unforgettable experiences with responsible practices.
